In a matter of weeks, Women4given will begin a new grant year, but before we do, here are some important details to share with you!
On the morning of Mon., Sept. 29, Marion Medical Mission volunteers installed a brand-new shallow well in the village of Kalewa, Malawi in Africa.
This well, underwritten by a donation from Women4given, will serve 135 people with fresh water for the next couple of decades.
Imagine the hope and health that comes from having a source of clean, safe drinking water!
Women4given’s grant to Beacon Ecumenical Ministries of Belleville to support a life coaching ministry gave a kick start to hiring Dan VandeRiet as Director of Ministries in late August.
Beacon gave the life coaching ministry a new name: Breaking the Chains of Poverty. That has a lovely ring to it!
In the September issue of Beacon’s newsletter, The Shining Light, VandeRiet is quoted as saying, “I love this job because I am right where God wants me to be.” And we love being a small part of the mission of breaking poverty’s chains.
On the evening of Tues., Nov. 18, friends and members of Women4given gathered at Eckert’s Restaurant in Belleville to serve the Violence Prevention Center of Southwestern Illinois’ Pack-a-Purse initiative.
Nearly 120 purses were packed with essentials—hand lotion, tissues, lip balm, compact mirrors, and much, much more—to be given to clients of the VPC at Christmas. We are overwhelmed at the enthusiasm for this volunteer project and so grateful for your thoughtful generosity.
Pack-a-purse served as a reminder of what Christmas is about: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him” (John 3:16-17). Love and hope, friends!
May God richly bless the women who receive these purses, packed with love and hope.
Oh, three more things:
- remember that a W4G Tribute Gift makes a great Christmas gift for someone who cares about serving women and children,
- catch the Christmas spirit at these December Volunteer Opportunities,
- lastly, make your list and check it twice — the list of charities you’ll invite to apply for 2015 grants, that is!
We wish you a blessed and merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
