Literacy

September 25th Program: Literacy

Illini Elementary School
21 Circle Drive, Fairview Heights, IL 62208
6:30pm

  • 68% of America’s 4th graders read below a proficient level. 82% of those children are from low-income families.
  • A student not reading by 3rd grade is 4 times more likely to drop out of high school.
  • 61% of low-income families have no age-appropriate books in their homes.

Join us as we learn more about literacy in our community and set a plan in motion to help our children. We can start by building home libraries! Please consider donating new or gently used children’s books. Bring your books and a friend to the program!

2018 Celebration

May Meeting/Program: “Celebration”
May 15th 6:30pm
Whiteside Middle School Library
111Warrior Way, Belleville, IL 62221

We are very excited about our two finalists, Christian Activity Center and R3 Development.

The membership meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 15th, at 6:30 p.m. at Whiteside Middle School, 111 Warrior Way, Belleville, in their library. A representative of each finalist will be there to give a 5 minute presentation on their nonprofit followed by 5 minutes of Q & A. We hope you will be able to attend to hear the presentations and vote in person. Some ladies told us that last year they thought they had made their decision until they heard personally from the nonprofit representatives.

Both nonprofits are doing great things and we would love for you to hear their story. In addition to addressing the needs of childhood poverty and hunger today, they are working to break the cycle by teaching the children life and job skills.

DON’T FORGET TO BRING a box of Capri Sun drinks, juice, or punch. Or bring a box of snack items such as fruit snacks or cheese crackers (nothing with nuts, please) for the Whiteside Summer Lunches!

And also… BRING A FRIEND!

Women4given Member Meeting/Program

Tuesday, March 20, 2018 6:30pm
Caritas Family Solutions
900 Royal Heights Rd.
Belleville, IL 62226

Due to a cold snap, our community recently spent several days under a boil water order.  Do you remember feeling inconvenienced? Maybe you had to head to the grocery store to buy bottled water, or boiled your own at home. But did you know that…

Unsafe water kills more people annually than all forms of violence, including war?

Mark your calendar now to attend our March member meeting. We will continue to learn about and serve in the area of Childhood Poverty & Hunger… this time internationally. A speaker from Marion Medical Mission will lead us in a discussion about the extreme situation for hundreds of millions of children in Africa who live without access to clean water. Then we will learn about volunteer activities we can participate in to provide children with a sustainable source of clean, safe, drinking water.

The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these bothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”—Matthew 25:40
