Eyewitness Grant Report: Honduras

Last month Bonnie Fahrner, our Grants Task Force Chair, and her husband Charlie traveled to Honduras with volunteers from Feed My Sheep Ministry and Bibles for Honduras.

In May, Women4given granted $3,000 to Bibles for Honduras to furnish 600 illustrated Spanish children’s Bibles for free distribution in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. An unexpected discount allowed Bibles for Honduras to purchase 800 children’s Bibles with our grant—a 33% increase.

Bonnie had the unique opportunity to see this grant through from start to finish, from reviewing their initial proposal letter to placing Bibles in the hands of children. And she brought back some photos and impressions to share with us!

Honduras Mom and son in cancer ward with BibleBonnie’s note: Here are photos of children in the public hospital in-patient cancer ward who received children’s Bibles. The kids each received a Bible, a toy, and a lightweight blanket. The children and their parents were most appreciative. Some of the children or their family members began reading the Bible right away.

The cancer ward is one of the few places in the public hospital that is air conditioned. (Kids’ immune systems are weakened by the chemo. The air conditioning helps to prevent the spread of germs that often grow in a warm and moist environment.) Most of the children are not accustomed to air conditioning so they are cold and welcome the lightweight blankets.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe also distributed Bibles by going into poor neighborhoods, walking down the dirt road, and offering Bibles to people. How often do you see people running to get a Bible?

Thanks for your efforts that made the children’s Bible distribution in Honduras possible!

Betty Nelson, our Volunteer Services Chair, and her husband Bob also made the trip to Honduras this October. Thank you, Bonnie, for this uplifting grant update and your leadership of the GTF!
