We are planting seeds of hope through our grant award: 2 grant nominee finalists will each give a 5 minute presentation followed by Q&A with our members. This is your chance to hear from the nonprofit and ask questions directly! We vote and you will present the check for $18,000 to the winner that night! Runner-up will also receive a small grant. A Win Win!
Planting seeds of Awareness and Service: Our guest speaker is from NFED, National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasia, (an inherited disorder that involves defects in the hair, nails, sweat glands and teeth). Our service project that night is providing the packing and postage for children’s books specifically designed for children with Ectodermal Dysplasia.
Planting seeds of personal health and wellness: a surprise for you! Please bring a friend!
“When you help someone out, don’t think about how it looks. Just do it—quietly and unobtrusively. That is the way your God, who conceived you in love, working behind the scenes, helps you out.” -Jesus, recorded in Matthew 6:3-4
This is how Eugene Peterson’s The Message renders Jesus’ instruction on serving others quietly, “working behind the scenes.” Women4given’s president, Marsha Heffner, recently echoed this emphasis on doing good behind the scenes:
When our girls were younger, our family had a puppet ministry. We performed special shows for Christmas, Mother-Daughter banquets, and VBS. Our daughters were shy then but really came to life behind the puppets. I was also more comfortable “behind the scenes.”
I want to share an example of making an impact behind the scenes. NyJae is a girl who recently graduated from East St. Louis High School. She became involved with Rebirth while running track and cross-country and gave her life to Christ. This summer, she was part of Rebirth’s Summer Internship program.
Here’s a look at how W4G played a part behind that scene: collectively Women4given awarded Rebirth a grant to help start a ministry for high school girls by hiring a girls’ track coaching assistant named Mollie. Mollie was able to start a Bible study and impact several young girls’ lives. This year, we awarded a grant to Rebirth to help purchase a home to be renovated and hire young student interns to gain work experience.
We support Rebirth; Rebirth supports NyJae.
NyJae will be attending Indiana State University in the fall. Can’t wait to see what great things are in store for this young lady!
Thank you for being a part of our collective, behind-the-scenes work!
In our first five years, Women4given has tripled – from 17 to 52 members – by the grace of God and word of mouth. You have shared the joy of collective giving with friends, and your friends have brought along other friends.
Our goal for the 2015-2016 grant year is to grow inter-generationally! We invite you to bring along your mother or stepmother, your daughters or granddaughters – in addition to your sisters and friends.
We are excited to announce a special Mother-Daughter Membership this renewal season. For the discounted rate of $600, a current member may add her mother or daughter as a new member of Women4given.* Each woman will enjoy the full rights and privileges of membership, including serving and, of course, voting on grant recipients.
The Mother-Daughter Membership rate is available only this grant year 2015-2016, so be sure to gather your loved ones for the season kick-off at 6:30 p.m. on Tues., Sept. 22 at Fairview Heights Public Library to take advantage of this $130 discount! Or join now by mail.
“Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts.” Psalm 145:3-4
*Additional mothers and/or daughters may be added at the discounted rate of $235 each.
